In December our Pack meeting will be a week earlier than normal so there are a couple items I wanted to communicate with a little over a week until the meeting.
This year the church has asked if we could provide gift-cards for them to distribute to families in need rather than adopting a specific family. There is a great need for gift cards for food (Hy-Vee, Dahls, Fareway), gas (Casey’s, BP, Kum & Go), and personal hygiene (Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Target). The challenge is to see if we can collect 50 cards in various amounts ($5, $10, $20, $50) to help support the Sacred Heart community. Please bring your donations to the December 3rd Pack meeting and we will decorate a tree with the gift cards. For those of you who purchase cards through the school Script program it is very easy to support both the school and a family in need this holiday season.
Pack Meeting and Popcorn Pizza Party
We will have the pizza party the boys earned for meeting their popcorn sales goal at our December meeting. Five boys will get to throw a whip cream pie and one lucky boy will win an IPad Mini. Remember to continue to enter your Scout’s achievements into ScoutTrack. In order to be recognized for this meeting please have everything entered into the system by this Wednesday, November 27th so our Advancement Chair will have time to pick up awards. For those of you who have issues with ScoutTrack we will have a laptop at the Pack meeting so you can enter any requirements earned for the January meeting.

Hello and welcome back to another fun year of Cub Scouts. As a reminder, our first Pack meeting will begin promptly at 6:00 Tuesday, September 10th. Due to the city election, we will be in the school gym for the meeting. I believe the west door will be open for us to go in. There is a lot of items I will be covering at this meeting so I have sent out an agenda for you to review in advance. We will be signing up for popcorn sales shifts so make sure you bring your calendar for the first two weekends of popcorn sales (Sept 28 & 29 and Oct 5 & 6). Also, we will be collecting annual dues at the meeting. Dues will be $50 again this year.
Your Scouts are welcome to display their summer projects and loop/pin requirements while we set up for the meeting (5:30 – 6:00). This is an excellent chance for them to work on their public speaking skills and cover the “show to your pack” portion of their achievements. I plan to set aside the 30 minutes prior to each meeting this year for the Scouts to showcase their work.
I hope everyone is having a great summer. We have a few events this month that I want to make sure everyone has on their calendar. These activities count toward the July events for those boys working on their Summertime Award (except for the planning meeting).
July 13th – Pack Swimming Party 6:30 – 8:30. Clive Aquatic Center. This year we will be collecting food donations for the DMARC Food Pantry. Please bring a can or box item to help restock the shelves. Remember this is an event for the whole family.
July 22nd – Hike Club 8:00 am Walnut Woods State Park. Remember, attending Hike Club helps the boys earn their walking staff and tokens for those staffs.
July 22nd – Pack Committee Meeting 10:00 am Maytag Scout Center. This will be our annual planning meeting. Anyone interested in being part of the Pack Committee is welcome to attend.
July 27th – Have a Heart 5k 7:30 am Raccoon River Park. We still need a couple boys to help with handing out water. Volunteers get a race shirt. In addition there will be enough time for the boys to do the kids run as well. Please let me know ASAP if you are able to assist with this fundraiser for Ashley, a student at Sacred Heart.

At the December Pack meeting; the pack celebrated reaching their popcorn sales goals. The boys were given their sales awards and Scoutmaster Scott shaved his head. In addition the five boys who sold more than $1,000 in popcorn were able to toss a shaving cream pie in Scott’s face.
