Peace Light Ceremony

With Christmas almost on us I want to share a wonderful opportunity our Pack will be hosting. Each year a Scout from Austria travels to Bethlehem to the Grotto of the Nativity where Jesus was born and brings a flame from the lamps that have been burning for centuries back to Vienna where it is distributed around the world with a message of peace. We are lucky that for the first time the light has come to Des Moines.

On Monday December 22nd we will be having a small ceremony of peace where we will be lighting a candle at Sacred Heart Church with the flame from the Peace Light. All our Scouting families and friends are welcome to join us at 6:00pm for the lighting ceremony and for silent reflection. This is a non-denominational service to reflect on the Christmas season and to pray for peace throughout the world. At 6:30pm a Rosary will be said and everyone is welcome to stay for the Rosary as well or to continue to pray in a manner they see fit.

The lit candle will burn during the entire week of Christmas and you are encouraged to stop by and take a moment of silent reflection during that time. If anyone would like to bring the flame home with them we can make arrangements as well to share the light with everyone.
