From the Pack Trainer

It is now mandatory that all adult leaders and registered volunteers take Youth Protection training. I strongly recommend that all who have taken it in the past retake it as the training is only good for a 2 year period. For those who have not taken Youth Protection please get this course completed ASAP.

Youth Protection is available to take online and takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. Below are the steps for getting online to take the course. If you do not know you ID number please call the scout office or email them. Also, the BSA Card that you were given earlier in the year will also have your BSA ID number.

I want all leaders who are participating with the pack camp-out in a few weeks to have this completed before we go, I have already done mine, and it does not take very long.

There are other online courses also available to leaders, I would suggest doing some of these also, there is some good info in these courses and once again, do not each course does not take a lot of time to complete, just plug away at a few of them over the summer. The more training you have, the better leader you will be, the better leader you are, the more the kids will get out of the program.

Lets make it a FUN and SAFE program for our kids!

Thanks,
Andrew Coady

Important Changes to the Boy Scouts of America's Youth Protection Training Policies
Recently, the Boy Scouts of America announced important changes to its Youth Protection policies. The purpose of these changes is to increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting.

Effective June 1, 2010:

  • Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their position.
  • New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.
  • Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.

To find out more about the Youth Protection policies of the Boy Scouts of America and how to help Scouting keep your family safe, see the Parent’s Guide in any of the Cub Scouting or Boy Scouting handbooks, or go to http://www.scouting.org/Training/YouthProtection.aspx.

Providing you with clear and helpful information is a priority If you have additional questions, please contact your council or please let us know by sending your questions to youthprotection@scouting.org. We will review all inquires and post updates to www.scouting.org/youthprotection.
