The Mission Statement of the Boy Scouts of America is “…to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.” In Cub Scouting, this is emphasized in the Cub Scout Promise and the Law of the Pack.
To assist in fulfilling the Mission Statement, Cub Scouting has ten purposes, which are:
- Character Development – Leadership programs
- Spiritual Growth – God & Me/Family programs, Scout Sunday
- Good Citizenship – Participation in Pack ceremonies, field trips
- Sportsmanship and Fitness – Camping and games
- Family Understanding – Working with Family
- Respectful Relationships – Working with Adults and Scouts
- Personal Achievement – Advancement, contests
- Friendly Service – Service Project Leaf Raking
- Fun and Adventure – Meetings, trips, camping
- Preparation for Boy Scouts – Webelos program
